Lenses, Chapter 27 ( Journal Response )

  • Lenses, Chapter 27

-In this chapter of Lenses named, "Your Game will probably have a client" informs the reader of the different situations of when you build a game, and your client decides to censure your game it is up to you on how you'd want to take it.  For example in the section named "coping with bad decisions"  the author introduces to the reader a small situation and how to properly execute the action. " When someone makes a bad suggestion, it doesn’t mean they are dumb — it just means they are trying to help. And most of the time, when one of these bad suggestions comes up, it is a solution to an unstated problem. This is a perfect time to pull out our old friend, Lens #12: The Lens of the Problem Statement! Because if you can figure out what problem the client is trying to solve with their suggestion, perhaps you can come up with a solution that does a better job of solving the problem, and the client will be thrilled" This quote shows that if the client has said something to anger you, don't be offended the client just wants to help you design your game better, even though he/she sounds like they don't know what they want. The example called " Bring me A rock" this example brings the reader into another situation. However, the client exercises the designer's mindset by asking, bring me a rock. The designer becomes perplexed with what is being requested by the client and shows the client some rocks and the client isn't satisfied. On the second try, the designer gains the upper hand by now asking the client what exactly they want, what size and type of rock they want.
